Rocketship Education: A Real Alternative

Rocketship Education: A Real Alternative

A good education is the best way to ensure that your child has a bright future ahead of them; unfortunately, however, many public school-aged children are relegated to attending underperforming schools, based on the district that they reside in. Thankfully, Rocketship Education provides an alternative; if you’re unfamiliar with Rocketship Education, it is a network of public charter schools available to elementary-aged students.

These non-profit charter schools are aimed at low-income families, who would otherwise have to settle for schools in their district that doesn’t meet the children’s needs. Founded in 2006, Rocketship Education has made it a mission to provide children with personalized learning, which includes parental engagement, community organizations, and unique lesson plans.

Since opening its first school in San Jose, California, Rocketship Education has earned tremendous praise for helping students score well on state assessments, and for making charter schools a viable alternative for low-income families. In an effort to build on its success in California, Rocketship Education has opened charter schools in the Midwest and as of 2016, opened a school in Washinton, D.

Huawei continues hat-trick win at Asia's leading telecom industry awards

Huawei recognized for its contribution to drive innovation in 5G, Internet of Things / Machine-to-Machine and Smart City

SINGAPORE, Nov. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei today announced it received top honours in three categories, namely 5G Innovation of the Year, Internet-of-Things (IoT) / Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Solution Innovation of the Year and Smart City Innovation of the Year, at the 2017 Telecom Asia Readers' Choice & Innovation Awards. Now in its 10th edition, the annual awards ceremony took place yesterday at the Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay.
Lim Chee Siong, Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer, Huawei Southern Pacific Region, said, "The recognition from the industry's customers continues to push us to build a Better Connected World. Moving forward, we will double our efforts to deliver breakthroughs in the industry, and for the businesses our customers operate in, to ensure we are in the best position to enable our customers' digital transformation."
"Huawei repeats its 2016 total again this year," said Stefan Hammond, Managing Editor, Telecom Asia. "The firm's winning categories -- 5G, IoT/M2M Solution and Smart City Innovation of the Year -- reflect important technologies in the telecom landscape of 2017, and beyond."
5G Innovation of the Year Award
Huawei was voted top in this category for its 5G New Radio and New Use Cases with Verification. The award submission entry elaborates how Huawei spearheaded the completion of China's second-phase 5G radio technology test by adopting 5G New Radio, Massive MIMO, and other technologies. To exemplify this technological capability, for example, a high definition (HD) movie can be downloaded in less than one second.
Huawei was the first to provide end-to-end (E2E) isolated network slices from 5G NR to networks using one set of telecom infrastructure. The test results far exceeded 5G requirements of multiple vertical industries, as defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The test, which was conducted in Beijing, saw over 100 channels of 4K video streamed smoothly in vehicle-mounted mobile scenarios. Huawei also recently updated the industry record of 0.3 milliseconds one-way latency over the air interface with a reliability of over 99.999% during test scenarios. This is the third consecutive year that Huawei has been recognized by readers in this category.
IoT/M2M Solution Innovation of the Year Award
This category recognizes Huawei's Ocean Connect IoT Platform enabling Green IoT Solutions. Huawei Ocean Connect IoT Platform is an E2E innovation solution based on IoT platform, and access agnostic, with deep support for device management of Low Power Wireless Access (LPWA) networks. The platform supports various global and local partner ecosystem devices which helps operators, enterprises, industry partners to build an E2E IoT Tested, and ready to deploy solutions.
In line with Huawei IoT "1+2+1" strategy (1 platform, 2 access network and 1 chipset with LiteOS). This can help application development quicker, simplify secure access of devices, and guarantee the quality of network through connectivity management. It also enables seamless interconnection with worldwide partners and offers one-stop services in order to create greener smart cities, and reduces operational cost through several solutions including but not limited to Smart City and Utility Application cases, Connected City Lighting Solution, Smart Meter Solution and Smart Parking Solution. Huawei has been awarded in this category for a second consecutive year.
Smart City Innovation of the Year
The third award, giving Huawei the 'hat-trick', is the Smart City Innovation of the Year. Huawei Smart City Solution incorporates cloud data center, broadband and IoT network, and ICT capability disclosure, big data, geographic information system (GIS) and application enabling platform, along with six security mechanisms, physical, network, host, virtualization, application and data. The solution is a comprehensive system that features top-level design, integration, operations, service applications, and new ICT infrastructure. Cities use new ICT to sense, analyze, and converge key data from city operations and management systems, so that managers can intelligently respond to a variety of governance, livelihood, and business needs. Huawei builds Smart Cities with its complete product lines, world-leading technologies, open architectures, diversified industry solutions, and plentiful partner resources, focuses on ICT infrastructure and teams with partner companies to develop open, customer-centric solutions in order to build a sustainable Smart City ecosystem.
The Readers' Choice and Innovation Awards recognizes the technology innovations and contributions of the top telecommunications industry players in the Asia Pacific. In its 10th edition, the awards saw a total of 90 nominations representing 48 companies across 21 categories. Finalists are evaluated based on overall quality of innovation and contribution to technology advancement, vision and industry leadership, market acceptance (encompassing market share growth, market share and new customer acquisition, as well as performance of the products and solutions. Winners are decided based on the highest number of votes by Telecom Asia's online subscriber base of service providers across Asia Pacific.

Shanghai Jewellery Fair 2017 showcases cutting-edge designs, innovative concepts – Press Release Live

Shanghai Jewellery Fair 2017 showcases cutting-edge designs, innovative concepts – Press Release Live

SHANGHAI, Nov. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — The 13th edition of the China International Gold, Jewellery & Gem Fair — Shanghai (the Shanghai Jewellery Fair), East China’s highly anticipated four-day jewellery trade show, is all set to showcase an extensive range of eye-catching jewellery collections at various price points. It will open its doors on November 17 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center.

Featuring over 300 exhibitors of classic and trendy jewellery products, the fair is anticipated to draw more than 6,500 buyers from 13 countries and regions who view the show as the starting point to find high-quality suppliers and innovative solutions, gain valuable market insights, network with industry experts and discover brand partners in one of the most vibrant and fashion-forward cities in the world.

The 13th Shanghai Jewellery Fair is being organised by UBM Asia at the most opportune time. One of the highlights of this year’s show is a Jewellery Life Pavilion, which features world-leading design concepts and innovations that open up crossover cooperation opportunities between traditional or conventional jewellers and the wider applied arts and lifestyle-related sectors. This pavilion is expected to activate buyers’ interest, especially those targeting a millennial-dominated audience. The growing influence of millennials on the luxury and jewellery sectors could not be more pronounced in China. According to a Goldman Sachs 2015 report, there are about 415 million millennials in the country (those born in the 1980s and 1990s), accounting for 31 percent of the total Chinese population. This generation is also becoming increasingly wealthy. The same study pointed out that China’s millennials, whose jewellery-buying preferences differ greatly from those of prior generations, anticipating growth of their aggregate income by US$3 trillion during the next decade.

The Shanghai Jewellery Fair will also turn the spotlight on independent designers from Mainland China and Taiwan region who are breathing new life into jewellery-making traditions through their customised or personalised collections. Visitors may find pieces that meld artistry, craftsmanship and luxury with function and even lifestyle content at the Designer Pavilion.

Buyers will also find handcrafted fine jewellery sets with top- and investment-quality gemstones in classic and contemporary designs. Rare gemstones from the exclusive collections of dealers from Sri Lanka, Thailand and the US, among others; classic and traditional jewellery collections by Lao Miao Jewellery, one of China’s renowned brands; and a jewellery-inspired lifestyle presentation by the Shanghai International Brand Jewelry Center are among the must-see attractions of the fair.

Fine jewellers from Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Mainland China, Poland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the US, Turkey and the Hong Kong and Taiwan regions are also set to make a splash at the fair.

The Pearl Zone is another star attraction of the Shanghai Jewellery Fair. This section features world-class pearl producers, and includes pavilions organised by the Zhejiang Pearl Association and Zhuji, China’s “Pearl Village.” Japan’s established pearl dealers will also be presenting their wide product inventories at the show.

Fashion jewellery and accessories, a perennial staple in major markets, will likewise occupy their own section at the fair. “Bridge” jewellery, pieces that “bridge” the gap between fashion and fine collections, and diamond fashion jewellery are also expected to make waves at the show as buyers search for goods that will hit the retail sweet spot.

Another exciting feature to look out for is the second annual Asia-Pacific Jewellery & Watch Expo, which is the result of UBM Asia’s strategic alliance with the Shanghai NIU International Exhibition Co. Ltd. The expo, which will concurrently run with the Shanghai Jewellery Fair, is co-organised by the China National Light Industry Council, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization. The expo will focus on fine jewellery and watches along with classic products, such as artworks in China.

Organised on the sidelines of the Shanghai Jewellery Fair are insightful seminars and workshops including Swarovski 2018 Fashion Trends, Jewellery Design & VM Inspiration Workshop; “Innovation in Culture, Fortune in Culture” — Laomiao 2018 Jewellery Trend and New Opportunities for the Global Jewellery Industry Forum and the GZDE Diamond Innovation Forum. Networking and business-matching opportunities between overseas and Chinese jewellers will also be facilitated through a series of pre-scheduled activities.

In 2016, the Shanghai Jewellery Fair drew 4,870 unique visitors from 48 countries and regions, and recorded 5,666 visits during its four-day run. It hosted 260 exhibitors from 18 countries and regions spread across 11,000 square metres of exhibition space. The 2016 Asia-Pacific Jewellery & Watch Expo was held concurrently with the Shanghai Jewellery Fair. The top 10 sources of overseas buyers (excluding mainland China and the Hong Kong region) were Sri Lanka, Taiwan region, India, Japan, Korea, the US, Australia, Pakistan, Malaysia and Myanmar.

Cheryl Drake of US-based Pearl and More Pearls has been a Shanghai Jewellery Fair regular visitor for the last 10 years. “I am a big fan of the fair. I love Shanghai, which is a vibrant international city,” Drake said in an earlier interview. “All of my suppliers are in Shanghai. I found a lot of high-end jewellery at competitive prices, especially pearl jewellery, at the show. I met new suppliers from Hong Kong. Overall, the Shanghai Jewellery Fair is improving every year; the clear product sectorisation and convenient location help. I will definitely visit again in 2017.”

Muhammad Ikram of Pakistan-based Ikram Nature Exploration made his second visit to the show last year. “My goals were to make new business connections and get inspired by new jewellery designs. I met my suppliers from Thailand and Pakistan. There was a wide range of products to choose from. The facilities are great, and the venue is easy to access. Also, November is a good time to visit because the weather is warm. I am satisfied with the fair and will visit again in 2017,” Ikram said….More
