SHANGHAI, Nov. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — The 13th edition of the China International Gold, Jewellery & Gem Fair — Shanghai (the Shanghai Jewellery Fair), East China’s highly anticipated four-day jewellery trade show, is all set to showcase an extensive range of eye-catching jewellery collections at various price points. It will open its doors on November 17 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center.

Featuring over 300 exhibitors of classic and trendy jewellery products, the fair is anticipated to draw more than 6,500 buyers from 13 countries and regions who view the show as the starting point to find high-quality suppliers and innovative solutions, gain valuable market insights, network with industry experts and discover brand partners in one of the most vibrant and fashion-forward cities in the world.

The 13th Shanghai Jewellery Fair is being organised by UBM Asia at the most opportune time. One of the highlights of this year’s show is a Jewellery Life Pavilion, which features world-leading design concepts and innovations that open up crossover cooperation opportunities between traditional or conventional jewellers and the wider applied arts and lifestyle-related sectors. This pavilion is expected to activate buyers’ interest, especially those targeting a millennial-dominated audience. The growing influence of millennials on the luxury and jewellery sectors could not be more pronounced in China. According to a Goldman Sachs 2015 report, there are about 415 million millennials in the country (those born in the 1980s and 1990s), accounting for 31 percent of the total Chinese population. This generation is also becoming increasingly wealthy. The same study pointed out that China’s millennials, whose jewellery-buying preferences differ greatly from those of prior generations, anticipating growth of their aggregate income by US$3 trillion during the next decade.

The Shanghai Jewellery Fair will also turn the spotlight on independent designers from Mainland China and Taiwan region who are breathing new life into jewellery-making traditions through their customised or personalised collections. Visitors may find pieces that meld artistry, craftsmanship and luxury with function and even lifestyle content at the Designer Pavilion.

Buyers will also find handcrafted fine jewellery sets with top- and investment-quality gemstones in classic and contemporary designs. Rare gemstones from the exclusive collections of dealers from Sri Lanka, Thailand and the US, among others; classic and traditional jewellery collections by Lao Miao Jewellery, one of China’s renowned brands; and a jewellery-inspired lifestyle presentation by the Shanghai International Brand Jewelry Center are among the must-see attractions of the fair.

Fine jewellers from Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, Lithuania, Mainland China, Poland, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the US, Turkey and the Hong Kong and Taiwan regions are also set to make a splash at the fair.

The Pearl Zone is another star attraction of the Shanghai Jewellery Fair. This section features world-class pearl producers, and includes pavilions organised by the Zhejiang Pearl Association and Zhuji, China’s “Pearl Village.” Japan’s established pearl dealers will also be presenting their wide product inventories at the show.

Fashion jewellery and accessories, a perennial staple in major markets, will likewise occupy their own section at the fair. “Bridge” jewellery, pieces that “bridge” the gap between fashion and fine collections, and diamond fashion jewellery are also expected to make waves at the show as buyers search for goods that will hit the retail sweet spot.

Another exciting feature to look out for is the second annual Asia-Pacific Jewellery & Watch Expo, which is the result of UBM Asia’s strategic alliance with the Shanghai NIU International Exhibition Co. Ltd. The expo, which will concurrently run with the Shanghai Jewellery Fair, is co-organised by the China National Light Industry Council, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization. The expo will focus on fine jewellery and watches along with classic products, such as artworks in China.

Organised on the sidelines of the Shanghai Jewellery Fair are insightful seminars and workshops including Swarovski 2018 Fashion Trends, Jewellery Design & VM Inspiration Workshop; “Innovation in Culture, Fortune in Culture” — Laomiao 2018 Jewellery Trend and New Opportunities for the Global Jewellery Industry Forum and the GZDE Diamond Innovation Forum. Networking and business-matching opportunities between overseas and Chinese jewellers will also be facilitated through a series of pre-scheduled activities.

In 2016, the Shanghai Jewellery Fair drew 4,870 unique visitors from 48 countries and regions, and recorded 5,666 visits during its four-day run. It hosted 260 exhibitors from 18 countries and regions spread across 11,000 square metres of exhibition space. The 2016 Asia-Pacific Jewellery & Watch Expo was held concurrently with the Shanghai Jewellery Fair. The top 10 sources of overseas buyers (excluding mainland China and the Hong Kong region) were Sri Lanka, Taiwan region, India, Japan, Korea, the US, Australia, Pakistan, Malaysia and Myanmar.

Cheryl Drake of US-based Pearl and More Pearls has been a Shanghai Jewellery Fair regular visitor for the last 10 years. “I am a big fan of the fair. I love Shanghai, which is a vibrant international city,” Drake said in an earlier interview. “All of my suppliers are in Shanghai. I found a lot of high-end jewellery at competitive prices, especially pearl jewellery, at the show. I met new suppliers from Hong Kong. Overall, the Shanghai Jewellery Fair is improving every year; the clear product sectorisation and convenient location help. I will definitely visit again in 2017.”

Muhammad Ikram of Pakistan-based Ikram Nature Exploration made his second visit to the show last year. “My goals were to make new business connections and get inspired by new jewellery designs. I met my suppliers from Thailand and Pakistan. There was a wide range of products to choose from. The facilities are great, and the venue is easy to access. Also, November is a good time to visit because the weather is warm. I am satisfied with the fair and will visit again in 2017,” Ikram said….More

The Hong Kong Star Film Festival took place on the 27th – 30th October 2017 in Hong Kong.

It was a small but professional event with a variety of people travelling to the capital to view the films on show. The film genres included documentary, action and even comedy to name a few. The films on show were created by talented filmmakers from all areas of the world. A gentleman and his wife even travelled from Berlin, Germany to witness their film have its Asian premiere. The festival showcased feature length films over the first day and a variety of shorts which kept the audience entertained over the following 4 days. Looking around the cinema it was clear that all who attended had a enjoyable experience and this was also visible in the Q&A session during every night of screening which created lively conversations. Even the cinema lobby was  an exciting place to be with filmmakers discussing their next projects amongst each other long after the event has finished.

The festival concluded with a closing ceremony and an award session where the filmmakers were awarded for their hard work and creativity in their categories. One particular filmmaker walked away with 2 awards, 1 for Best Director and the other for Best Short.

It is clear that it has been another successful year for the Hong Kong Star Film Festival and credit should be given to the organisers who created a very enjoyable and informative night of independent film. Both Hong Kong and filmmakers are awaiting the next instalment of the festival which is scheduled for 2018.

New Zealand International Film Awards wraps up a successful 2017 Festival in Auckland:

Zealand International Film Awards celebrated a completion of a
successful 2017 event. A range of feature and short films were screened
to Auckland audiences on 7th September at Rialto Newmarket. Festival
program included works by independent filmmakers from New Zealand,
Australia, UK, USA, Germany and Italy. Number of filmmakers, cast and
crew were in attendance to accept the awards.

 

This year’s awards winners include:

 

- Trailblazer (New Zealand), Best Student Film, directed by Linus Herbig-Matten and produced by Rod Fereti, award accepted by Rod Fereti.

 

- Tim Tsiklauri, Best Director – for Crackheads (New Zealand), award accepted by Tim Tsiklauri with several cast and crew members in attendance

 

- RED (UK), Best Music Video, directed by Min Reid (UK)

 

- Amore Grande (Italy), Best Original Story, directed by Max Chicco (Italy)

 

- Waiting For Rain (Australia), Best Short Film, directed by Andrew Carbone
